Hear from outstanding writers in our Author Talks series

November 2021 - H.Hayek

Join Melbourne author H.Hayek as she discusses her work, influences and writing process.

Hayek is the author of delightful new middle grade novel Huda and Me, a cheeky, fun and fast-moving tale of two Lebanese-Australian kids who decide to escape their horrible babysitter by running away…to the other side of the world.

This talk will premiere on the Brimbank Libraries YouTube channel from 6.30pm Thursday 18 November.

October 2021 - Elizabeth Tan

Join award-winning Western Australian author Elizabeth Tan as she discusses her work, influences and writing process.

Tan is the author of Rubik (2017) and Smart Ovens for Lonely People (2020), a short story collection which won the 2020 Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction.

This talk will premiere on the Brimbank Libraries YouTube channel, 6.30pm Thursday 21 October.

September 2021 - Dr Winnie Waudo

Join cookbook writer Dr. Winnie Waudo for a journey into the wonderful heritage of Kenya and Kenyan cooking! Dr. Waudo will delve into her connections with places and recipes from around Kenya, her writing process and her experiences of the self-publishing process for On My Kenyan Plate.

July 2021 - Narrelle Harris

Join writer, editor and songwriter Narrelle Harris for a discussion about writing, her work, and the recently released and edited Sherlock Holmes anthology,The Only One in The World.

June 2021 - Scott Stuart

Join bestselling children’s author Scott Stuart for a fascinating talk on writing, his work, and how he became an award nominated writer. Scott’s books, including My Shadow is Pink and How to be a Real Man, have delighted children across Australia and the world with their messages of acceptance and being your true self.


May 2021 - Leanne Azzorpardi

Join author, learning support officer and mother of three Leanne Azzopardi as she discusses her memoir, My Gay Husband. After twenty-one years of marriage Leanne’s husband revealed that he was gay, throwing her life into turmoil. From this shock she set off on an inspirational journey of healing and rebuilding her self-belief, eventually becoming the best of friends with her ex-partner. Join her online for a story of recovery, writing and tenacity.

Leanne's talk will premiere at 6.30pm on Thursday 20 May.

She discusses the impacts of memory, secrets and love, and shares her tips for writing stories from personal experiences.

Sherryl has published more than 70 children’s and young adult books, has won numerous awards (including the NSW Premier's Literary Award for Children's Books) and in this talk she shines a light on the fascinating life of a busy writer.

August 2020 - Katherine Firkin

Join crime writer and CBS journalist Katherine Firkin as she discusses her debut crime novel Sticks and Stones, her writing practice, and her inspirations.

July 2020 - Catherine Moolenschot

At 25, Catherine Moolenschot has a remarkable story to tell. She was born in South Africa, grew up in Australia, and at just 13 Catherine wrote her first book: 'A Rough Road'.
This was followed by 'Jim’s Book', a biography of the founder of the iconic Jim’s franchise. Her debut young adult novel 'I am Megan' was published in 2018.

June 2020 - Jen Hutchison

Jen Hutchison's son lived a successful life in finance, but seven years ago, her world imploded when her 31-year-old son Raif died of an accidental drug overdose. 
Join Jen as she discusses 'Motherling', the story of how she walked the 800km Camino de Santiago through France and Spain with Raif’s ashes as she attempted to come to terms with his death.

May 2020 - Ali MC

Join author, lecturer, and photographer Ali MC as he discusses his writing, photography, influences, and what inspires him.
