Intergenerational Storytelling

Join Annie Louey, Hoa Pham, John Thuy and Casey Nguyen for an intergenerational exploration of the joy and complexity of multilingual and cultural storytelling, and why we need more diverse voices in Australian writing.

This event will feature a dance performance by the Australian Vietnamese Arts Association.

Annie Louey
is a television, radio and stage personality whose comedy brings people together from all walks of life.  A writer on the final season of Rosehaven (ABC and Amazon Prime), she also takes great pride in her regular guest spots on ABC Melbourne Breakfast with Sammy J and RRR Breakfasters.

Hoa Pham is the author of eight books. Her books Empathy and The Other Shore will come out in Spring 2022 with Gold SF, a feminist speculative fiction press based in the UK. She is also working on a memoir - Admission about madness, transgenerational trauma and Buddhism.

John Thuy came to Australia from Vietnam as a Colombo Plan Student in 1970. After a long career in Electrical Engineering, in 2010 John actively engaged in cultural matters joining many organisations including the Australian Vietnamese Arts in Brimbank.

Over the years, John has written over 200 poems and 50 short life stories in Vietnamese and over 35 short life stories in English, a third of his works have been published. In 2015 John joined Boroondara Writers Club in Hawthorn to conquer the linguistic divide. In late 2021, he was recognised for his engagement in community organisations when he was named as the recipient of the Victorian Senior of the Year – Promotion of Multiculturalism Award.  John’s current goal is to publish his short story book in both languages.

Casey Nguyen is a Naarm/Djilang-based writer of short and long fiction. Her short stories interrogate divides between home and travel, longing and heartbreak, family and friendships. Her most recent story ‘Hai, Ba’ can be found in Kill Your Darlings online.
