Important information for Libraries

Important Update:
Brimbank Libraries are now back to normal opening hours.

For all library opening hours click here.

Borrowing conditions returned to normal as of January 4, 2021. Please take note of the due date on your items and return all items by that date. You can renew items if no reserves are placed on them. Please see our full borrowing conditions.

Available Services
In line with government regulations, you are required to register your details before entering the library.

As we welcome you back, please note that due to the restrictions governing the number of people we can host in our libraries, you will be able to enter the Library for the following services:

• To access a computer, print or scan.
• To use WIFI or a study table.
• To collect or borrow items, and browse the collection.
• To attend programs – please note you must book into a program to secure a place.

We will continue to provide a range of online services to our members, including the Click and Collect service, the Home Library Service and the Brimbank residents Library to Your Door Service.

Measures to protect public health
Please do not visit the Library if you, or a person you are in close contact with, are unwell.

In line with government directives, capacity limits apply. When the Library has reached capacity, customers waiting to enter will be required to queue outside the Library. There are limited undercover areas outside the Library, so please prepare appropriately for standing outside in the weather.

All Library patrons and staff are expected to practice social distancing and hygiene etiquette at all times. Staff and patrons have access to hand sanitiser and hand washing facilities in the bathrooms. All visitors must use hand sanitiser as they enter and are encouraged to wash/sanitise their hands regularly. All surfaces in the Library are regularly cleaned, and contact points on computers and printers are cleaned after each person.

Although these precautions minimise the risk for customers and staff, if you are concerned about the risk please do not visit the Library. For residents who cannot visit the library or are self-isolating, the Library to Your Door delivery service is available.

Click and Collect Printing
Need to print from home?

We’re pleased to offer a new Click and Collect Printing service. Submit your print job through the library website and collect at your selected branch. This service is available to all community members.

If you are not a library member, you can join online. Library membership is free.

eResources
You can continue to access our range of eResources online. We have a wide range of books, magazines, newspapers and more, all available from your computer or device free with your Library membership. Visit the eResources page for a full list.

Browsing the Collection
Browsing is available, however, some collections are restricted, including newspapers and collections on Level 1 at Sunshine Library. Please ask one of the staff to assist you or reserve items for a Click and Collect service.

Toys are able to be borrowed.

Quarantining Collections
Brimbank Libraries are not quarantining or cleaning items when they are returned to the Library.

The Libraries continue to undertake increased cleaning and sanitisation in the space as well as ask customers and staff to sanitise their hands during their visit. Due to the way a library operates, with items being available for customers to browse and return to the shelves, it is not possible to continually re-clean books that may have been touched by customers. This makes cleaning or quarantining returned items redundant.

Study Rooms and Study Booths bookings
Study rooms and booths at Sunshine Library and Deer Park Library may be booked.

Payments
We are now accepting both cash and EFTPOS payments.

Events and activities
Programs are returning to libraries from February 1.

To do this as safely as possible there will be some changes to how we run programs in the library. The Department of Health & Human Services have imposed limits to keep everyone safe. The biggest change is that we need to limit how many people & children can attend a program. This means that if you want to come to a storytime or any other program, you will need to book online first.

Please book a place before coming to the library, either on our website, or by ringing your nearest Brimbank Library, and we will help you to book in.

Please check the libraries bookings & events page or follow us on Facebook or Instagram for details of online events and activities.

We understand this is a difficult time for many people as we try to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, and we will continue to support our members as much as we can in other ways.
