Joining the Library

Library membership is open to everyone at no charge.

  • You may join at any Brimbank Library or online (see across)
  • To join, you must show identification with your name and current address and provide either a mobile phone number or email address
  • Persons under 16 years of age need a guarantor to sign and authorise their membership. The guarantor is responsible for all items borrowed and use of library facilities including computers
  • Your library card is required to borrow, renew or reserve items, and to use the computers and video games
  • If you lose your library card or change your name, address or contact details, please notify staff immediately
  • A home library service is available to residents who are unable to visit the library due to frailty, illness or disability


Borrowing

You may borrow up to 40 items on your library card including:

  • Books and audio books for 4 weeks
  • CDs and DVDs for 4 weeks (limit of 10 DVDs)
  • Magazines for 1 weeks
  • Playstation and Xbox games for 4 weeks (limit of 2)
  • Toys for 4 weeks (limit of 2 toys, no reservations)

Items can be returned to any Brimbank library during opening hours or through the after-hours chute.
You can request a new title if it meets our selection criteria, and is not already in our collection.
If an item is borrowed from another library service, an interlibrary loan fee will apply.


Fees and Charges

  • If an item is returned late, an overdue fine of $0.30 will apply for each item for each day
  • If you have more than $15.00 in fines on your card, you will not be able to borrow, use a computer or play video games in the library
  • Lost library cards and items damaged or lost will incur a replacement fee


Renewals

  • Renew items on time to avoid fines
  • Items can be renewed online, by phone or in person
  • Items can be renewed twice
  • Items that are reserved cannot be renewed

 

Reservations

  • If you wish to borrow an item that is out on loan, you can reserve it at no cost
  • Items can be reserved, online, by phone or in person
  • You will be notified via text or email when the reserved item is ready for collection
  • Reserved items will be held for seven days
