See how gunpowder was made!

All are welcome to come along to the Open Day of the heritage-listed restored Black Powder Mill. Learn about its history and that of the Factory, see the Mill in operation and take a tour of the site. Enjoy light refreshments with Friends of the Black Powder Mill.

Built in 1942, the Black Powder Mill is a purpose built structure for the manufacture of black powder (gunpowder), the only surviving building of the former Albion Explosives Factory and a symbol of the munitions industry in Melbourne’s west. It is a reminder of the thousands of workers employed in the munitions industry, especially in wartime and in the post-war migrant years.
