  • Fiction titles are available in a range of formats for all ages and reading interests: picture books, easy readers, junior fiction, teenage fiction, graphic novels, comics and adult fiction, including bestsellers and award winners
  • For people who have a visual impairment there are large print books, audio books as well as eAudiobooks available for download.
  • Non-fiction books are available for all ages on a wide range of popular subjects: hobbies, language learning, biographies, DIY, cooking, gardening, arts and crafts, school projects
  • Collections of books and CDs for people learning English as a second language include the IELTS series
  • Newspapers in English and community languages

Community Languages

Man and child with Chinese bookCommunity language collections are held at St Albans, Sunshine and Deer Park libraries. You may request items to be sent to any branch for borrowing. Collections include books for adults and children, DVDs, CDs, magazines and newspapers.

Specialist Collections

  • Reference: Each library has a collection of Reference books for in-library use.
  • Online Databases: Online databases and e-book collections available at no charge to library members. Click here to find out more.
  • Local History: Sunshine library has a local history collection that includes books, newspapers, videos and DVDs. Many of these items are for in-library use only. The Advocate newspaper is available on microfilm from January 1924 to December 2007 and in hardback from 1927-1994. Customers with local history questions may visit the Harvester Site Interpretive Centre which is located in Sunshine library. The Centre is open each Wednesday from 2pm-5pm and is staffed by members of the Sunshine Historical Society.
  • Genealogy: Sunshine and Deer Park libraries hold copies of the main Victorian historical records for Births, Deaths and Marriages on CD Rom for in-library use.
  • Car Manuals: Sunshine library has a collection of car repair manuals for in-library use.
  • Toy Library: A small toy library collection is held at Deer Park library. Toys are suitable for 0-4 year old children. Two toys may be borrowed for 14 days. There are no renewals or reservations on toys.
  • Specialist Picture Books: Each library has picture book collections to assist parents explain difficult or challenging events to young children. Subject areas include going to the dentist, adoption, a new sibling, a death in the family and people with a disability.

Inter Library Loans

If you would like a book that is not held by Brimbank Libraries you may request an inter library loan. A $3 non-refundable administrative fee is charged for this service. Books only available from a special or academic library will attract an additional fee of $12.
